Our Women's Wing

The role of women in The Gambia pre- and post-independence has been key.  Women comprises 51% of the population in The Gambia and have been actively involved in politics. The United Democratic Party (UDP) places great emphasis and values the continued role of women in the Party.

The National Women’s wing is a bedrock of the Party. This brings together all the women’s structures of the Party. They are an active mobilisation forum engaging in politics as well as development initiatives at the local and community levels. The Annual National Tour of the Women’s Wing is a very popular calendar item for the Party during which the Party engages with the women folk to understand their development aspirations.

The Women’s wing was particularly active in 2016 in the fight against dictatorship.  They established the “Kalamar Revolution” a symbol demonstrating their role as custodians and caretakers of the social fabric of this country. This peaceful demonstration method was quite effective and became a galvanising strategy for the UDP struggle. We salute the courage and tenacity of all women who participated in the Kalamar Revolution.

Diaspora Chapters

UDP fully recognizes the extremely critical role of the Diaspora in the body polity of this country. In recognition of this the Party has established branches and chapters in all major countries with a concentration of Gambians. Through these chapters we aim to promote trade and investment, create businesses and entrepreneurship, knowledge, and skills transfer. The chapters provide a wide range of support to members including social and economic support.

The Diaspora chapters are currently present in USA, UK, France, The Scandinavia, Angola, Turkey, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Canada etc. Contact details of each of these chapters is provided under contacts.

The UDP Diaspora chapters are fully to maximize the great potential that they can provide. A UDP government will provide the necessary supporting platform, policies and programs that will support the community and provide facilities and to enhance their participation in all facets of the development agenda of the country.
